福島敦子 FUKUSHIMA ATSUKO
*Got interested in animation after seeing Osamu Dezaki’s The Fire G-Men in high school. Joined Dezaki’s Studio Annapuru where her encounters with Manabu Ohashi and Akio Sugino greatly influenced her aesthetic. Part of the group of animators that emerged around Takashi Nakamura during the 80s. Married to Studio 4C president and animator Koji Morimoto. Almost all of Fukushima’s work since the 80s have been for 4C and Morimoto’s films.
*Her KA is distinguished by its sophisticated lineart, lively character acting, and background animation. Her style is best showcased in Morimoto’s Jack and the Beanstalk OVA, Toshio Hirata’s The Golden Bird (she animated the witch), and the intro to Otomo’s Robot Carnival anthology. Her consensus masterpiece is her work on Rintaro’s Labyrinth Labyrinthos, which she did animation direction & character designs for. She also was character designer for the Popolocrois video game series.
*Directed and animated the “You Make Me Want To Be a Man” music video for Studio 4C’s Fluximation. She was also the director, character designer, animation director, and one of the main key animators of the Genius Party intro.
